Paulownia

Paulownia (kiri) is a wonderful, light wood that was used predominantly for furniture. Due to it's fire retarding properties, paulownia was also used to make boxes to store valuables. When a daughter was born, the family would plant a paulownia tree and when she came of age, the tree would be cut down and a fine cabinet made.
